Tiki tour – Day 2

After a terrible sleep, caused by being soooo cold, then soooo hot, we were woken up at 3am, and 5am by fellow holiday park residents. So kind.

Eventually we started moving, fuelled by a bowl of tepid porridge and head back in the direction of the supermarket for lunch and dinner supplies.

Morning 1 – let’s gooooooo!

Although there were glorious clear blue skies, it was oh so cold.

Today’s route was a short one, only 65km with minimal hills to get us warmed up, heh.

The route took us through vineyard country with more vines than the eye could see. Cruising along through the valley, with rugged mountains on either side it was beautiful. The problem was, the road was straight. Oh. So. Straight.

It felt like we were trudging through a headwind for endless miles, but the trees don’t lie and it was just our wind resistance.

By 11am we were already half way to our destination so pulled over at a ‘historical site’ which was a water trough placed there by the local residents in 1915. So, we stopped for a cuppa tea and watched the world go by for an hour or so. There was some machinery operating in the field next door cutting vines which was interesting to watch.

A cuppa tea for the lady

Eventually we cracked on again, only having to stop for an emergency hot cross bun before I got really hangry.

We arrived at our destination which was the most beautiful cottage in the arse end of nowhere. All you could hear were the trees blowing in the gentle breeze and birds tweeting. It was lush.

Although the air was cold, the sun was hot! A dreamy lunch on the deck had to be eaten quickly before we melted!

An afternoon lazing around, drinking tea was a nice introduction back into bike packing.

An early night, ready for tomorrow’s route of 85km with over 900m elevation to climb!

Day 2, complete.

It’s good to be adventuring again!
